In an initiative unique to this part of Illinois, Southeastern partners with programs which provide services to older adults to provide
education and outreach to individuals and families regarding the mental health needs of older adults. A key part of the program is in
facilitating coalition groups in Crawford, Edwards, Hamilton, Jasper, Lawrence,Richland,Wabash, Wayne and White counties. These groups

Southeastern Illinois Counseling Centers, Inc. along with the Carbondale Alzheimer's Association facilitates Alzheimer's Support Group each month. These support groups are located in Crawford and Richland Counties. The groups provide education, support and referrals for caregivers who work with someone who has Alzheimer's disease or any related illness. This program is an extension of SIU School of Medicine's Memory and Aging Clinic and the Regional
Alzheimer Assistance Center for the Illinois Departmentof Public Health
to provide early assessment of Alzheimer's and other memory related disorders. The initial assessment
can take place in any of the nine counties listed above and is free of charge. |
